What I Eat at Christmas as I’m a Vegetarian?

People often ask me what I eat at Christmas as I’m a vegetarian and can’t have turkey.

It’s usually asked in a very pitying fashion as though my entire Christmas will be ruined if I don’t eat a dead bird!

Even when I did eat meat, turkey was my least favourite as it was dry and pretty tasteless so I really don’t miss it at all.

So what do I eat at Christmas?

  • Half a grapefruit.
  • Slice of toast with orange marmalade.
  • Orange juice.

We all like a big dinner so we don’t bother with a starter, but for the main course I have:

  • Roast potatoes
  • Roast parsnips
  • Carrots
  • Sprouts
  • Cabbage
  • Vegetarian chipolata sausages
  • Quorn turkey-style slices with cranberries (sometimes we have nut roast)
  • Bread sauce
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Vegetarian gravy
  • Sage and onion stuffing (I love stuffing!)
  • Christmas pudding made with vegetarian suet.
  • Whipped cream with brandy.
  • Cheese and onion rolls.
  • Mince pies (made with vegetarian suet).
  • Hummus.
  • Mushroom paté.
  • Cheese and tomato.(check out these vegetarian cheese).
  • Dips with raw veggies.
  • Cheese and pineapple on sticks.

I have a wonderful time and don’t feel guilty that a bird had to die for me to do so.
